The Lake District is a region of mountains and lakes located in the North West of England. It comprises of 15 shimmering lakes, including the well known Ullswater, Windermere, Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite. There are several beautiful falls and some of England's highest peaks. Many of the region's valleys were deforested following Roman and Norse invasions, leaving behind numerous ancient relics. The stone circle near Keswick and the ruins of old castles and churches are wonderful sites to explore.
