Cottage Details

Stable Apartment is the first floor of a dog-friendly converted coach house. It is a Grade II listed building situated in the grounds of the owner’s home.

Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome, and there is off-road parking for two cars.

Inside

The interior has been decorated to a high standard. With electric storage heaters and gas fire, this property is comfortable in any season.

The living area is open plan, comprising a seating area with comfy sofas, a dining table and chairs with views over the shared gardens, and the kitchen space overlooking the courtyard below. Original and modern features combine to create a relaxing space below dark beams, where guests can watch television or read, in front of the gas fire.

There are all the mod cons you need in the kitchen: oven, microwave, fridge freezer, washing machine and dishwasher.

There are two bedrooms: a king-size and a twin. The main bedroom enjoys countryside views at the rear, and the twin room looks across the courtyard.

The bathroom has a bath with shower over, a basin and WC. Bed linen and towels are included in the rent.

Free WiFi is available for guest use.

Outside

The generous shared gardens are well maintained, with four ponds and private seating area.

Please note that access to the apartment is via an external stone staircase, so people with limited mobility may find this an issue. Children must be supervised as a steep bank slopes down to heathland at the rear of the gardens, and the ponds are unfenced.

Location and surrounding area

One of the best equipped holiday homes that I have encountered. A dog friendly cottage in an area excellent for walking and dog walking…

Sykes Cottages

The town of Lydney is less than a mile away, where you will find restaurants, pubs, shops and sports facilities. England’s largest oak forest and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Forest of Dean, is nearby and offers great walking, cycling and horse-riding opportunities. There is also Offa’s Dyke, where you can fish and watch nature.

There is plenty more to explore in the area, including Clearwell Caves, Puzzlewood, Littledean Jail, Symonds Yat Rock and the Dean Forest Steam Railway.

A short hop away by car are Cardiff and Newport, and slightly further afield but well worth the drive are the magnificent Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains.
