Starting with the biggest, Northumberland National Park, there’s a few must-see spots. Kielder Forest Park is sprinkled with visitor centers, walking paths and breathtaking views of the clear, unpolluted night-sky. It contains Kielder Water – a large lake suitable for most water-activities, including skiing and sailing. Hadrian’s Wall, named after the reigning Roman emperor Hadrian in 122AD, was once a Brittanic defense and is now property of the National Trust. Associated events are regularly hosted here, such as charity walks along the wall or cycling routes. Finally, the Cheviot Hills in the north separate England and Scotland. Here, you can abseil, hike, cycle, stroll – you can even splash around in one of the numerous ponds and valleys.

The North Pennines are an area of outstanding natural beauty for a reason, and it is also a UNESCO Global Geopark. Tumbling brooks, meandering moors, expansive peatlands, beckoning woodlands, sweeping dales and picturesque meadows make homes for some of Northumberland’s most beautiful wildlife, fauna and flaura.
