Cottage Details

The stunning 300 year old Magna Cottage is located in Ashmore, Dorset’s highest village. This quiet settlement centers around a traditional dew pond, and because of its altitude the area offers magnificent views of the surrounding countryside. Magna is situated at the end of a no-through-road, so solitude and peace are definitely on offer here.

Two well behaved dogs are welcome for a small additional charge.

On-site parking is available.

Inside

The gorgeous thatched roof of Magna Cottage gives you an indication of the traditional delights inside.  As you take in the quite of your surroundings, you will feel the stress and strain of everyday life begin to lift.

With sleeping accommodation for up to eight people, this cottage is perfect for a family getaway. On the ground floor you will find a fully fitted kitchen complete with breakfast dining table. There is everything here that you will need for your stay, with electric hob and oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, radio and washer/dryer.  

Also on the ground floor is a large dining room with seating for eight guests, as well as a spacious lounge with an inglenook fireplace (fire guard provided). There is also a television, DVD player, CD player, and iPod connection. 

The ground floor accommodation is completed with a shower room and WC.

On the first floor there is a corridor which leads to two of the bedrooms, one with twin beds, one with a double. There is also a bathroom here with hand-held shower attachment. Along the corridor there is access to the main bedroom with double bed. This room is linked to a further double bedroom with twin beds. You will also find a second staircase at this end of the first floor.

Throughout you will find beamed ceilings, some of which are low, all befitting a cottage of this age.

WIFI is available at a domestic standard.

A travel cot and highchair are available upon request, but no stairgates are provided.

Outside

The beautiful plot that Magna cottage sits in has secure fencing around the perimeter. The gardens are around 1 acre and are perfect for children and dogs. There is an orchard in the gardens too, where organic apples are grown. Garden furniture is provided for you to enjoy this wonderful space.

Outside you will also find a log store.

Location and surrounding area

The immediate area around the cottage offers plenty of walking and cycling. There is forrest and greenery in abundance and mountain bike trails easily accessible. The Wessex Ridgeway Walking trail is also close by.

The small market town of Shaftesbury is approximately 6 miles away. Here you will find the famous Gold Hill which featured in the Hovis adverts. The dog-friendly Fontmell Pub, listed in the Michelin Guide, is around 4 miles away.

Sherborne Castle welcomes dogs on short leads in their gardens, and is around 22 miles away.
